First Friday: Dark Train Express

Dark Train Express: from left, Eben Eastman, Ben Wiggin and Chad Cummings

The Dark Train Express trio (Chad Cummings, Eben Eastman and Ben Wiggin) will play a spirited hour of Cummings’ pop/rock/jazz fusion originals. Cummings, vocals and guitar, has taught guitar, bass and piano at Mountain Top Music Center since soon after the school’s beginning in 1996. Cummings discovered guitar at age 11, and was part of the vibrant original-music band scene in Boston while still in his teens. In addition to his work with Dark Train Express, he plays bass and keyboards, and sings lead and harmony vocals, for Brazen Cane, a classic rock and new country band popular across New England. His album, Hot Cars and Fast Guitars, is available at chadcummings.hearnow.com, and on iTunes and Apple Music.

Ben Wiggin, drums,  works as a physical therapist with Back Bay Rehab in Tamworth during the day, and calls on his percussion skills to play with Dark Train Express as time allows. Eben Eastman, bass, who has studied with Chad for more than a decade, rounds out the trio.

First Friday performers include Mountain Top faculty and staff, as well as other Mount Washington Valley musicians, who share their music with the community without compensation. All First Friday concerts are open to the public by donation, in keeping with Mountain Top Music Center's mission of "enriching lives with music.”

Johann Sebastian Bach's The Mass in B minor

Presented jointly by Music in the Great North Woods and Mountain Top Music Center, this is the final performance of the Big Moose Bach Fest, which concludes its season with a performance of J.S. Bach’s monumental masterwork, the Mass in B Minor.

One of the most profound and astounding spiritual testaments ever composed, the Mass in B Minor took 35 years to complete and remains a living testimony to Bach’s deep faith and his artistic virtuosity.  Every note from the opening Kyrie to the final Dona nobis pacem plays a part in making what many consider to be Bach’s ultimate musical legacy.

A Charlie Brown Christmas

Heather Pierson, piano and vocals; Shawn Nadeau, bass, and Craig Bryan, drums, will perform Vince Guaraldi’s “A Charlie Brown Christmas” at the Majestic Theatre.  Doors open at 6:30 and refreshments will be available in the Majestic Cafe.

A Charlie Brown Christmas was originally telecast in December 1965 and was an instant hit with audiences who connected with Peanuts creator Charles M. Schultz’s cast of characters – especially with its rounded-headed hero Charlie Brown, his woefully scrawny Christmas tree, and his typewriter-wielding dog Snoopy. Nearly given the ax by CBS studios at the time of its release, this beloved holiday classic resonates with both children and adults of every generation. Over fifty years on, it still holds up as one of the most endearing Christmas tales ever told, and the story of commercialism run rampant echoes clearly to this day.

The musical score for “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” composed by the late Vince Guaraldi, is just as poignant and touching as the story and includes the hugely popular hit “Linus and Lucy”. His gentle jazz riffs established musical trademarks that, to this day, still prompt smiles of recognition.

The trio will perform the entirety of the Charlie Brown Christmas album as recorded by the Vince Guaraldi Trio, as well as other Guaraldi compositions.

Based in Conway, New Hampshire, The Heather Pierson Jazz Trio also performs a rich variety of Heather’s originals, jazz and blues standards, and unique re-workings of familiar American music. Heather is a pianist, singer/songwriter, and performer known for her bell tone vocals and equal parts New Orleans-Oscar Peterson-Dave Brubeck jazz piano leanings.

On the Main Stage of the Majestic Theatre.  Admission to limited to those over 18 or accompanied by parent / guardian.  Doors and Majestic Cafe concessions open at 6:30 pm, music at 7:30 pm.

A livestream option is available.

Sponsor a Seat at The Majestic!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST

“Take a seat” at the Majestic!

The doors of the fully renovated Majestic Theatre are open (with precautions)! Although we have a functional stage, we need additional equipment and furnishings to bring the Majestic to its full potential.  Sponsorship of the seats is a wonderful way for YOU to participate in this effort!

How it works...

On the following screens, you can choose various ways to "sponsor a seat" (or several!)  All seat sponsorships are in perpetuity and come with the option to add a plaque to the seat bearing a name or dedication.

PLEASE NOTE: In order to make this process work conveniently online, we’ve set up seat selection and sponsorship payment in our ticketing software – that means, it’ll look just as if you’re purchasing tickets to an event on December 31, 2021 (an arbitrary date).

There are three levels of sponsorship in this campaign:

$250 – Choose from seats shown in blue

$500 – Choose from seats shown in orange

$1000 – Choose from seats shown in gold*

*special benefit at the $1000 dollar (and above) level – early ticket purchase option to all ticketed events produced by Mountain Top for the next two years!

Click "Get Tickets" to get started

If you are interested in making a major gift to this campaign, please contact MTMC Executive Director George Wiese at 603-447-4737 ext. 304. Donors contributing at the $5000 and above level may choose naming options for any two available seats in the theatre, regardless of section.
